Early Season Surprises and Dual Week 1

The 2016/17 dual meet season starts tomorrow in New Hampshire.  Without a dual wrestled in the state this year there are already some surprises.  The “retirement” of Shayne McCann from the sport probably tops the list.  While surprising, there is something admirable about a kid really looking at what he wants out of life and determining that he has accomplished what HE wanted to in the sport.  While I’m sure disappointing to Pinkerton fans and a loss to our states wrestling community, at the end of the day these kids aren’t professional athletes for us to judge.  Good luck Shayne!

Surprise number two to ponder is the transfer of the Widman family to Concord.  I say “family” because the Tide seem to have gotten a package deal.  Junior wrestler Ben Widman joins the Tide as the 2-time defending Division 3 champion.  If that wasn’t prize enough his father, John Widman, the former head coach at John Stark joins the Tide coaching staff.  This could make for another interesting chapter in the rivalry with school across the state in Plaistow…

Our choice for Dual of The Week is Alvirne at Concord.  Not so much for the potential of a close team score but for the number of potentially “ranked” wrestlers that will hit the mat.  Alvirne should bring into the capital 2 wrestlers that have a chance to win state titles and compete regionally in Cam McClure and Nick Milinazzo.  Waiting for the Broncos in Concord will be the consistently tough Tide lineup one would expect.  In addition to the aforementioned Widman, Concord will be ready to send out their 3 senior Tri-captains, Jake Pickard, Chris Munnell and George Tarwo.

Migration to TrackWrestling.com

Also of note for this season is the migration of schedules and results from NHIAA.org to Trackwrestling.com.  You can view the schedules and results by going to trackwrestling.com site and following the directions below

*Click “Browse”

*2016/17 High School Boys

*Select NHIAA as the governing body

You can then use the links in blue at the top of the page to view individual team info and results.  The “search” function at the middle top is also a good way to view a schedule by day.

Let the Dualing Begin!!!
